Review: Tequila Ocho Puntas

Tequila Ochos Puntas - La Ladera (2021) - 50.5%
Puntas (points) refers to a distiller cut and blending process where a portion of the heads (higher proof, wider range of complex chemical compounds) is blended back in with the heart cut to adjust flavor and raise the abv. This Puntas was a special release by Tequila Ocho. In line with their standard offerings, each edition showcases a specific agave field and vintage. This release is from La Ladera, 2021 harvest.
Notes: Super rich on the nose - caramel, butter, light backing space. The baked and burnt sugar notes are supported by fresh peppers, florals, lime. You could nose it all day. Great weight on the palate. Brighter here - minerality, poblano peppers, black pepper. More buttery, caramel notes adding depth and weight. Finish is clean with florals, anise. Faint, dried earthy berries (sumac?).
Score: 8 (Stash One) I missed the boat on this one when it was released. Wish I could have grabbed a couple - totally landed for me. Reminds me a lot of an early batch of G4 108 I reviewed a couple years ago.
