Notes: Rochelt Quince

Rochelt Quince - 50%

From Rochelt: Our quince is called “Ronda” and comes from Upper Austria. It is pear-shaped and has a felt-like yellow/gold skin when fully ripe.

We often leave our fruit on the tree right through until the end of October. The combination of sunny days and cooler nights typical at this time of year allows the quince to reach ideal ripeness. When they are finally harvested, the fruits have a strong, fruity and exotic aroma.

Maturation period ~12 years.

This is my first sample of Rochelt eau-de-vie.

Notes: A perfumery on the nose - in the best possible way. Notes are powerful and clear - floral heavy and complex: rose, vanilla, baby powder, touch of citrus. More traditionally structured; full upfront working toward dry. Pear. Passion fruit - tropical leaning entry. Hibiscus. Rose. Cracked peppercorn adding another layer. Dries out with a long floral finish.

Pour This For: Lovers of higher proof tequila blanco - Calle 23 Crillo, Cascahuin Tahona.

Score: 8 (Stash One) Plays notes I find around the perimeters of my favorite, bright tequila blancos. Here they are played front and center here without a vegetal core. Totally unique and thankfully, not a trace of rubber. More to come on that in future Rochelt notes.
