From Fine Drams: XXX/Five is a young Jamaican rum, distilled at a distillery in Saint Catherine. XXX/Five was crafted using a pot still and molasses before two years of tropical aging in Jamaica. Chemical analysis reveals an ester count of 67.7 g/hLAA, with total volatile substances registering at 529.8 g/hLAA. Bottled on January 9th, 2020 at 65% ABV this rum yielded 400 bottles. All XXX rums are bottled without filtering, coloring, additives or dilution of any kind.
Notes: Active on the nose - roasted nuts, meaty spice, tangerine, Hawaiian Punch. Super high-toned on the palate. Would love this in a Jungle Bird. Citrus. Tangerine and tropical top-notes. Sharper wood notes in the background. Finish gets industrial with glue and wood stain.
Score: 6 (Solid) Lots to work with here. Would provide excellent structure and complexity to a cocktail. A little young and rowdy to be a top-tier sipper. The fact that this is 130 proof and only 2 years old is just sinking in. Pretty remarkable showing for those specs.
