Review: Muchote Reposado

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

Muchote Reposado - NOM 1414 - 40%

Nobody likes missing out on a bargain. Nobody likes "back in my day" stories about how much better things used to be. Still, it's hard not to tap into those tropes when talking about Muchote. I wasn't drinking tequila when this was on the shelf for thirty dollars. And I don't think there's a repo on the shelf today that can deliver this kind of quality at that price tag. In addition to a higher brix-level for their agave and 7 months of aging (American whiskey barrels), Muchote made use of NOM 1414 production staples like classic music during fermentation, oxygenation, horno cooking, roller mills, and copper pot distillation.

Nose: Berries. Agave. Butter. Faint oak. Honey. Fresh mint. Wow...

Flavor: Berry again. Oak. Pollen. Baking spice. Mint. Late caramel.

Structure: It's light, complex, and streamlined. Digs for a little depth before gently drying out. Medium-long finish.

Alcohol Integration: Heat is totally managed.

Score: 7 (Highly Recommended) This was 30 bucks? Crazy. I'd put this head to head with ArteNOM 1414. Another absolute winner from the Vivanco family. Given its discontinuation, this is a buy on site for me at old retail prices.
