Review: Foursquare Zinfandel Cask

Foursquare Zinfandel 11 yr. - 43%

I slept on the Zinfandel and Port finished Foursquares when they were first released. Obsessed with higher proofs, it was easy to pass right by those in favor of the 2004. As I drank more tequila and brandy and found satisfying profiles at lower proofs, I started to wonder how I would've responded to these early release ECS offerings. Here's my chance.

Note: Starts off with a classic Foursquare nose and slowly opens to more jammy red fruits. The body is really impressive - full, soft, and balanced - carrying coconut, sugar glaze, chocolate, spiced berries, light pepper and oak tannins. Plenty of range. Well composed. The finish is medium length with plenty of flavor and no heat.

Score: 8 (Stash One) Admittedly, my palate has been gravitating toward lower proof offerings. The Zinfandel may not be as defined or complex as some of the higher proof Foursquare offerings, but it's damn satisfying (I may say more so) and manages to check all the boxes despite its "disadvantaged" proof. I preferred this to Indelible.
