Notes: Venezuela Rum 14 yr. - "Whistler"

Updated: Sep 5

Venezuela Rum 14 yr. - Raising Glasses "Whistler" - 62.1%

Distilled at an undisclosed Venezuelan distillery, this unadulterated rum partially aged in Venezuela (12 yrs.) and the UK (2 yrs.), distilled on a column still from molasses.

Raising Glasses is an independent bottler of rum and whisky out of Massachusetts, focusing primarily on single casks. They provided this sample for review.

Notes: Decadent nose - freshly baked brownies, banana bread, soft integrated oak, light industrial/gasoline notes, baking spice. The palate is surprisingly soft (still composed) for the proof. Salted caramel, grape skin, cinnamon, more light industrial notes, bruleed banana. Soft finish circling back to the barrel sweets.

Pour This For: Albeit lighter for sure, those who enjoyed the 17-20 yr. Bellevue's from Guadeloupe will find lots to like here.

Score: 8 (Stash One) Softer than expected for its proof - thanks in part to the more dessert driven profile. Fans of barrel-driven spirits will make short work of the bottle. My sample didn't last long.
