Notes: Thailand Rum 9 yr. - "Kinnara"

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Thailand 9 yr. - Raising Glasses "Kinnara" - 61.8%

Distilled on a column still from molasses at an undisclosed Thai distillery. This unadulterated rum was partially aged in Thailand (5 yrs.) and the UK (4 yrs.). Not often you get the chance to try unsweetened, cask strength Thai rum. Hopefully that changes soon.

Raising Glasses is an independent bottler of rum and whisky out of Massachusetts, focusing primarily on single casks. This sample was provided for review.

Notes: Nose is very approachable - brown butter, banana, wood spice, coconut. Lots of traditional notes. The palate stays sweet with burnt sugar and underripe banana. Citrus and Ginger add some action/lift. Finish is long and dips into some oversteeped tea. Body is light (a touch thin) but the length and vertical range of the structure helps.

Pour This For: Those who prefer lighter, Spanish-style, rums will find a lot to love here with the intensity turned appropriately up.

Score: 6 (Solid) Was looking for a little more depth, especially from some of the sweeter leaning notes it delivers. I'd love cocktailing with this and splitting the base against some more intense potstill profiles.
