Talisker 15 yr - 2019 LE - 57.3%
Part of Diageo's 2019 special releases, this edition is notable for its higher age-statement and use of freshly charred American oak hogsheads.
Talisker is known for distillation techniques the employ talls stills with exaggerated U-shaped bends in their lyne arms and purifier pipes. These modifications allow for increased reflux and lower copper contact - producing a bold new make spirit full of sulphur, fruit, smoke, and pepper.
Notes: Tons of peach on the nose. Vanilla. Lemon pepper. Grilled meat. Structure is very concentrated up front with canned fruits and syrups - peaches, tangerines, apples. Long and big on the backside lifted by the smoke and some baking spice. Salty and nutty. Grilled fruits in the finish.
Pour This For: With all the fruit syrup, I'll roll the dice on cognac fans. I'd also gamble on armagnac lovers with the heavier cask influence and baking spice.
Score: 8 (Stash One) Love the concentrated fruits and integrated structure. Doesn't lose any clarity or power despite being dangerously drinkable.
