Review: Mezcaloteca Tepextate

Mezcaloteca Tepextate - 2-13 (2013) - 47%

From Mezcal Reviews: Mezcaloteca, the famous bar in Oaxaca City, is renowned for their educational tastings. They source all of their agave spirits directly from producers in seldom-traveled parts of Oaxaca that are often hard to get to.

This bottling is a 2013 distillation by Victor Ramos in Miahuatlán, Oaxaca - stone oven, wooden fermentation vats, copper still, utilizing well water.

Notes: Tropical, overripe fruits and cream cheese. Very expressive on the nose. Grilled peaches and cream. Green Beans. Light cedar smoke. Fruity up front on the palate (peaches, nectarines); ashy toward the back. Some lively baking spice mid-palate. Structure is full and weighty. Finish is slow and chewy with slight ashy and vegetal bitterness.

Score: 8 (Stash One) This was delightful. Active and rich with fruit and spice. Structure is really impressive - full and thick but w/ very active top notes.
