Kilchoman Sanaig - 46%
My fondness for Kilchoman was born out of a love for their brash, young single barrels. Back around 2016/2017, Binny's was getting a pretty steady supply of single casks that inevitably ended up on the discount shelf. I had trouble passing them by when they were on sale - lots of fun bottles. To date, the core expressions have been enjoyable, but not exciting enough to inspire a purchase. This bottle was left over from a tasting I hosted at my place in the before times. Sanaig features aging in oloroso casks (70%) and ex-bourbon barrels (30%) with a peat level of 50 ppm.
Nose: Malted chocolate. Soft smoke. Smoked meats.
Flavor: Buttery. Toffee. Apples. Bitter ash backbone. Grain and ash into the finish.
Structure: Soft and full. Nice range between top notes and depth. Medium length.
Alcohol Integration: Fairly expressive. Little pleasant punch in the finish.
Score: 5 (Average) Pleasant laid back sipper. A little too integrated at times. Feels very blended and tame compared to the single casks.
