Review: Don Fulano XA

Updated: May 23, 2022

Don Fulano Imperial XA - NOM 1146 - 40%

Aged 5 years in a variety of wine barrels, this is an XA from aging master Enrique Fonseca. The distillate is a blend of pot and column still (heavy on the pot) and utilizes a low pressure autoclave. This is my first time sipping from the Don Fulano line, but I've been a fan of NOM 1146 and Enrique Fonseca in the past - from the Fuenteseca expressions, to Purasangre and Tears of Llorona to Cimarron.

There's an informative marketing blurb on Enrique Fonseca's production process HERE.

Notes: Earthy and candy bar driven on the nose - chocolate, caramel, wood spice. Big roasted agave and oak on the palate. Touch of cherry and cinnamon but it's fairly two-note. Oak and spice for a medium, low-heat finish.

Score: 6 (Solid) Very enjoyable. Leans light and uncomplicated on the palate with most of the richness coming from the nose.
