Boukha Soleil (1970s) - ?%
A Tunisian fig brandy from ~1970s produced at F. Habib Distillery. The production process utilizes rehydrated figs and is twice distilled. In line with many eau de vie, the stated aim of the distillery is to translate the flavor profile of Tunisian figs as directly as possible in spirit form.
Notes: Fig, of course - dried and earthy. Deep entry on the palate - low, sweet fruit. Fig again - this time layered with peach and mango. All playing low and heavier on the palate. Finish cleans up dry and high with some mineral and stemmy notes. That combo almost hits metallic but steers clear of off putting.
Score: 5 (Acceptable) There's no ABV listed but given the weight and structure I'd guess it's a lower distillation proof and bottled near 40% ABV. This is interesting as a change of pace. Not really anything I'd open or close with. Everyone I've shared it with has been mildly intrigued. No one disliked it. Still, no one was begging for seconds.
