Notes: 2002 Barbados - Down Island Spirits

2002 Barbados - 20 yr. - Down Island Spirits - 48.1%

This 100% pot still rum from Barbados was distilled at Foursquare Distillery in 2002. It was shipped to the UK where it aged in a refill American Oak cask for twenty years. Finally, it was shipped to Florida for bottling and distribution. This limited release is one of very few bottlings of 100% pot still rum from Foursquare. Only 185 bottles

Notes: Jerked meat. Strawberry licorice. Menthol. Nail polish. Notes are clear but require some teasing out. Structure shoots high and mostly stays there although some salted licorice keeps playing low. Mid-palate notes are mostly missing. Plays imbalanced. Seaweed. Oak. Pepper. Acetone. Salted licorice. Finish is patchy and short.

Pour This For: Adventurous rum fans. Reminiscent of some continentally aged Port Mourant.

Score: 5 (Acceptable) ABV isn't quite dialed in (despite being lower proof). Notes are reserved for pot still distillate of this age.
